Guidelines for Glass Care from the Glass Association of North America (GANA):

Glass is beautiful but it can be fragile. Below are some guidelines from GANA for handling your glass:

• Do not set glass on concrete, metal or tile floors without padding. It may break, scratch or chip your glass.
• Never lay glass down horizontally without supporting its ends and middle to prevent breakage.
• Do not use scrapers or razor blades to clean glass.
• Do not allow dirt and residue remain on glass for an extended period of time.
• Do not begin cleaning without rinsing excessive dirt and debris first.
• Do not allow metal parts of cleaning equipment to contact the glass.
• Do not use abrasive cleaning solutions or materials.
• Do not allow splashed dirt or other materials to dry on the glass.
• Do not lean tools or other materials against the glass.
• Do not trap abrasive particles between your cleaning materials and the glass surface.
• Do not allow water or cleaning solution residue to remain on glass or adjacent materials.


• Clean glass as soon as dirt and residue appear.
• Exercise special care when cleaning coated surfaces.
• Soak the glass surface with a clean water and to loosen dirt and debris.
• Use a mild non-abrasive cleaning solution.
• You can use a squeegee to remove the cleaning solution.
• Remove all cleaning solution from window gaskets, sealant and framing.
• Be aware of and comply with the glass supplier's specific cleaning instructions.
